Pai Gow Poker: Strategy
A basic strategy for the game:
No Pair:
Use the highest card in the 5 card hand and second and third highest in the 2 card hand
One Pair:
Place pair in the 5 card hand, highest other two cards in the 2 card hand.
Two Pair:
Big Pair is Jack thru Ace: Place small pair in the 2 card hand.
Big Pair is 7's thru 10's: Place both pairs in the 5 card hand if
you can put an Ace in the 2 card hand.
Big Pair is 2's thru 6's: Place both pairs in the 5 card hand if
you can put a King in the 2 card hand; otherwise split
Three Pair:
Place big pair in the 2 card hand.
Three Of A Kind:
Aces: Place an Ace and next highest card in the 2 card hand.
Kings and Below: Place three of a kind in the 5 card hand; two highest
cards in the 2 card hand.
Straight, Flush, Straight Flush:
With No Pair: Place two highest cards in the 2 card hand that leave
a complete hand in the 5 card hand.
With One Pair: Place the pair in the 2 card hand that leave a complete
hand in the 5 card hand.
With Two Pair: Disregard the straight/flush/straight flush and Use
two pair strategy.
With Three of a Kind: Place complete hand in the 5 card hand, pair
in the 2 card hand.
Full House:
Put pair in the 2 card hand.
Four Of A Kind:
Jacks thru Aces: Always split.
7's thru 10's: Place four of a kind in the 5 card hand if you can
put Ace or King in the 2 card hand; otherwise split.
6's or Below: Never split.
With a Pair: Play four of a kind in the 5 card hand; pair in the
2 card hand.
With Three of a Kind: Put highest pair in the 2 card hand; full
house in the 5 card hand.
Five Aces:
Place pair of Aces in the 2 card hand, 3 of a kind in the 5 card hand.
